Frequently asked questions
1. What is Nume, who is it for, and how does it work?
Nume is an AI-powered CFO that helps founders understand and manage their finances through natural conversation. It’s built for early- and growth-stage companies that don’t yet have a full-time CFO, or want to augment their finance team with an always-on analytical copilot.
Nume connects to your accounting system and (optionally) your bank accounts, then turns raw financial data into clear explanations, reports, and strategic recommendations— without you needing to open a spreadsheet.
2. What can Nume help me with today?
Nume focuses on strategic financial analysis and decision support. Typical things you can ask Nume to do include:
Explain your recent financial performance (e.g. “How did we do last month?”).
Break down revenue, costs, and margins by product, customer, or region.
Analyse burn, net burn, and runway based on your latest data.
Highlight overdue invoices and accounts receivable risks.
Summarise cash movements from your bank accounts.
Explore “what-if” scenarios (e.g. hiring plans, runway extensions, revenue changes).
Create recurring reports (daily, weekly, monthly) and deliver them to Slack.
Generate presentation slides and export them to PowerPoint or PDF for board meetings, investor updates, or team reviews.
3. What does Nume not do (yet)?
Nume is not a bookkeeping or ERP tool and doesn’t replace your accountant or accounting system. In particular:
Nume does not edit, modify, or approve any entries in your accounting system.
It does not reconcile bank accounts, create journal entries, or close your books.
It cannot access systems beyond your accounting and banking tools today (e.g. CRM, payroll, or product analytics), unless explicitly integrated in the future.
4. Do my books need to be reconciled for Nume to work?
Nume can start providing value even if your books are not perfectly reconciled, but data quality will directly affect the quality of insights.
If your books are mostly up to date: Nume’s reports and recommendations will generally align closely with your accounting system.
If there are large gaps or inconsistencies: Nume may highlight unexpected patterns or discrepancies (e.g. strange margins, missing transactions) that point to underlying bookkeeping issues.
5. How accurate are Nume’s answers, and what if something looks wrong?
Nume prioritizes accuracy over speed. It relies entirely on the data pulled from your accounting system and (if connected) your bank accounts, plus the context you provide during onboarding.
If something looks wrong:
Check the source data in your accounting system or bank to confirm whether the underlying transaction, invoice, or balance is correct.
Verify the sync timing. Nume syncs your ERP data multiple times per day, so very recent changes might not be reflected yet. You can just ask Nume to refresh the data (in conversation) and it will do it straight away for you.
Rerun the prompt. Sometimes a fresh run after a sync is enough to resolve the issue.
If the discrepancy persists (for example, a specific invoice, MRR figure, or balance still looks off after you’ve checked the source system), please reach out to our team via the support widget in the bottom right corner.
6. Why is my data missing or why does a report look empty?
If a report appears empty or certain data is missing, it is usually caused by one of the following:
Integration not fully connected: The accounting system or bank integration might not be connected or may have lost authorization. Check Settings → Integrations and reconnect if needed.
Unsupported or un-synced account / entity: The relevant account, entity, or bank may not be included in the current integration setup.
No relevant data for the selected period: For example, if you ask for “October sales by customer” and there are no invoices in that period, the report will be empty.
Recent changes not yet synced: Updates in your accounting system may not show until the next sync finishes.
If everything looks correct in Settings and your ERP/bank, but Nume still shows empty results, try refreshing and rerunning the prompt. If the issue continues, please contact our support team.
7. Which systems can I connect to Nume, and how do I do it?
During onboarding (and later via Settings → Integrations), you can connect:
Accounting systems: Xero, QuickBooks, E-conomic, Odoo and Zoho Books
Bank accounts: Global coverage via our open-banking providers Atto and Plaid
To connect an integration:
Go to Settings → Integrations.
Select the accounting system or bank provider you want to connect.
Follow the secure pop-up flow to log in, complete any two-factor authentication, and grant read-only access.
Once connected, Nume will start syncing your data automatically.
You can disconnect or reconnect integrations at any time from the same page.
8. How does Slack integration work, and do I need it?
Slack integration is optional, otherwise Nume will email you.
When you connect Slack:
You can chat with Nume via the App Home, asking questions just like you would in the web app.
You’ll receive proactive reports and alerts, such as your Daily Cash Update or Monthly Performance Report, directly into selected Slack channels or DMs.
You can keep your team aligned by sharing insights where you already work.
You can connect Slack during onboarding or later via Settings → Integrations. If you prefer, you can also use Nume exclusively through the web app without Slack.
9. How long does setup take, and how fast are responses?
Onboarding & Launch
The guided onboarding (sign-up, integrations, and AI Interview) typically takes 5–10 minutes.
After that, Nume runs a Launch step in the background to import your data, build account mappings, and prepare tailored reports. This usually takes from a few minutes up to a couple of hours, depending on data volume and complexity.
Ongoing Responses
Nume is designed to prioritize accuracy and depth:
Quick questions (simple metrics, high-level views) usually take <30 seconds.
Deeper analyses (multi-step breakdowns, scenario planning, or complex reports) may take up to 4-5 minutes.
You’ll receive a notification (in the web app and, if connected, in Slack) when your report or artefact is ready.
10. How is Nume priced and how does the free trial work?
Nume operates on a simple subscription model designed for startups. Please find our up to date pricing page here.
11. Can I invite colleagues or my bookkeeper to Nume?
Yes. You can invite other users to your Nume workspace from Settings. Your first additional user is free, and each extra seat after that costs $100 per month. Invited users get their own conversations and tasks, while sharing the same financial data and integrations. The account owner manages billing and user access.
To invite additional users during your free trial, you will need to add a credit card. Your card will not be charged until the trial ends and you decide to continue on the Pro plan.
